REATHE – FOCUS – GO – FISHERMAN`S FRIEND STRONGMANRUN AUSTRIA 2019 – THE SPECIAL KIND OF OCR
10 tons of mud, 20 creative obstacles and some thousand litres of water from above and beneath: over 1500 participants from more than 18 countries took part at the crazy Fisherman`s Friend StrongmanRun in Flachau, Austria last July. Among all the people from different countries, there were no smaller than both Olympic and Worldchampionship medalists Bernie Gruber and Dominik Landertinger.
But what exactly makes the Fisherman`s Friend StrongmanRun so special?
This OCR (Obstacle Course Race), happening between the Austrian alps in Flachau, is the only Austrian stop of an international series, which takes place in eight different countries. The good mixture of costume challenge, obstacle race, party, entertainment, a great portion of humor and athletic effort already has delighted thousands of runners worldwide over the last 10 years.
However, the facts prove that this OCR isn`t a walk through the park or to put it another way a picnic: 1000 car and tractor wheels, 100 straw bales – each weighing about 500 kg and ten tons of mud are part of the race.
The event is even more than a very special OCR. participating means doing something good. This year, 5600€ have been donated, supporting the Österreichische Kinder-Krebs-Hilfe.
A glimpse behind the scenes approximately enables an image of the great complexity of such an event. As soon as the run is over, the first exploratory talks for the upcoming year start. The track setup uses 14 days and the responsible team consists of at least 10-12 members. During day of event, this small bunch of people increases to a team of nearly 150 members, responsible for security, entertainment, food & beverage as well as event coordination.
